Claire Willeford-Carrillo, MPH

I grew up in a multilingual home and was always highly fascinated by reading, writing, listening to those around me, and learning as much as possible about all the languages in my environment!

After completing my BA degree in sociology and anthropology, I had my first exposure to translating and interpreting as I worked in social services with a widely diverse clientele. Using my second and third languages of French and Spanish, I worked closely with families from West and Northern Africa, Mexico, Central and South America to navigate the courts, healthcare and educational systems. I continued to use my translation and writing skills in all my professional settings as I completed my master’s degree and went on to work in research positions.

Navigating language and culture has also been important in my family—my husband and children are also bilingual and citizens of two countries. As I have traveled and been a part of the Spanish-speaking community in the United States, I have seen some pretty awful translations… so I know the importance of precision in the craft! Translation and interpreting are fields where accuracy and quality are absolutely vital, and I enjoy this challenge—from blog posts, to birth certificates, to health studies.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you’d like to discuss how I may help you with a project.
